F&Q Facts and Questions

Does therapy really work?

Yes! Research studies have proven that psychotherapy is as effective, if not more so, than medication management in treating many conditions such as anxiety and depression. The results of therapy are also longer lasting and more effective. However, therapy is not a quick fix or magical cure. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is used in my one-on-one and Teletherapy sessions.

How long does therapy last? How many sessions will I need?

Each therapy session is 55-minutes in duration. The frequency of your therapy sessions will depend on individual needs. Your responses to therapy, levels of motivation for change and personal strengths are unique. This will help decide the frequency and length needed to reach your goals. There is no specific number of sessions that bring the desired results.

Can I use my insurance to cover the cost of therapy?

My practice accepts most insurance carriers:

Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, United Health Care, Aetna, Tricare and others.

Your insurance will be billed at the end of each month. You are responsible for your copays at each session.  These copays can be paid on line using a credit or debit card at my website:  www.sjlcreatingwellness.com. I accept Medicare patients but I currently am not able to bill Medicare so your out-of-pocket cost is $65.00 per session payable at the time of service and payable on my website or by other means such as checks which can be mailed directly to me upon receiving your monthly invoice.

Are evening and weekend appointments available?

Daytime and early evening appointments are available on Tuesday and/or Wednesday. Currently there are no weekend appointments available.

What can I expect to happen in the first therapy session?

A predictor in a successful therapy outcome relies on the therapeutic relationship that develops between a client (you) and a therapist (me).  In this session, I hope to get to know you and will ask questions about your presenting problem, your history, and what you hope to accomplish from participating in therapy. You can share as much, or as little, with me as you feel comfortable in initially disclosing. However, the more you are able to share with me in the first session, or in future sessions, the more effective I will be in assisting you, and partnering with you, to achieve your therapy goals.
